Synopsis:

Sit back, grip your seats and let Brian take you on a perilous voyage of man’s attempts to secure a reliable means of crossing the Severn Estuary.  Two major ferry crossings, one tunnel and three bridges later, we may have finally cracked it.  The magnitude of the task can be best summed up by famous civil engineer Thomas Telford … “One of the most forbidding places at which an important ferry was ever established …”

Your Speaker - Brian Margetson

A semi-retired designer of buildings, Brian has always held a fascination of mysteries and tales of discovery.  Above all he enjoys social history, industrial archaeology and architecture.  He believes strongly that any subject can prove fascinating if well researched and presented.

Following today's talk all attendees are cordially invited to join us for refreshments, which this month is being hosted by our Reading Group
