Synopsis:

Today you will be told the story of Thomas Russell (b1570 d1634), a pupil at what we now know as King’s Bruton, who became a close and much trusted friend of William Shakespeare and eventually an overseer of the poet’s will.

Your Speaker: David Hindley

David recently published the story of how a wealthy country gentleman (and Old Brutonian) became a part of the great Shakespeare narrative: “In Search of Thomas Russell.”

Having read English at Cambridge, David taught at King’s Bruton where he ran the Drama Department and played an active role in the school’s choral music.  He has, for many years, taken a leading role in the open-air productions at Stourhead and has done extensive solo work as a tenor and baritone, both at Cambridge and in the West Country. He currently acts as a guide in Wells Cathedral.
